Band post rock asal New Jersey, Gates baru saja merilis lagu terbaru mereka dengan judul “Empty Canvas”. Berbicara mengenai Gates, mereka adalah memainkan sebuah musik yang seperti penggabungan antara post rock dan juga post hardcore, menghasilkan sebuah perpaduan yang terdengar soaring dan sedikit menakutkan. Di lagu “Empty Canvas” ini, mereka tidak ragu untuk mengupas tema yang lebih dalam mengenai originial thought. Sehingga bisa dibilang lagu ini seperti membunuh pelan-pelan dengan vibes yang kalem dan indah khas post rock tapi tidak ragu untuk langsung menggebrak.

Mereka sendiri menjelaskan lagu ini seperti sebuah konten hampa yang dibuat dengan tujuan untuk mendapatkan daya tarik pribadi. Lebih lanjut, mereka menjelaskannya sebagai berikut.

“’Empty Canvas’ is about vacuous carbon-copy content created on the shoulders of others meant solely for the purpose of gaining self-traction. It’s written from the point of view of someone who has to convince themselves that what they do matters despite reality. It was partially inspired by a story my dad told me about young hires in corporate settings, and partially inspired by the practice of ‘content curation’ on the internet. It’s about the importance I place on original thought, and praising, supporting and uplifting those who are lucky enough to have them regardless of how that might benefit one’s self.”
