ATLANTA – The metal titans Mastodon have unveiled “Your Ghost Again,” a poignant lead single that navigates profound personal loss, signaling a new thematic chapter for the band.

Mastodon released “Your Ghost Again” on June 2, 2026, marking their first new music since founding guitarist/vocalist Brent Hinds’ departure in March 2025 and subsequent death in August 2025. This track serves as the lead single from their eagerly anticipated ninth studio album, which is reported to be completed. The Atlanta-based band worked with producers Patrik Berger and Converge guitarist Kurt Ballou on the single.

Drummer/vocalist Brann Dailor described the album as “a hard record to make” due to the emotional turmoil surrounding Hinds’ exit and death, alongside the passing of Dailor’s mother. Guitarist Bill Kelliher noted the band chose “Your Ghost Again” as the first impression, as it embodies Mastodon’s sound while addressing recent losses. The track also features contributions from new members, guitarist Nick Johnston and keyboardist João Nogueira.
