VIRGINIA – Turnover unveils “I’m Up, I’m Up,” a new single announcing the band’s independent release of their sixth album, Down On Earth.
Turnover has announced their sixth full-length album, Down On Earth, slated for release on May 29, 2026. This forthcoming record marks a significant departure for the Virginia band, as it represents their first entirely independent release, following their previous work with Run For Cover Records. The album is a follow-up to 2022’s Myself in the Way.
The production of Down On Earth was handled by Zac Montez, Turnover’s long-standing front-of-house engineer. For the album’s cover art, bassist Danny Dempsey selected a photograph by Nick Waplington, noting its timeless quality and personal resonance. This artistic choice reflects the band’s continued self-reliance and creative control.
A Candid Exploration of Self-Acceptance and New Beginnings
Turnover’s “I’m Up, I’m Up” signals a profound internal shift, moving from self-doubt to an optimistic outlook, consistent with their 2022 album, Myself in the Way. Frontman Austin Getz embraced introspection during a touring hiatus, fostering a less precious creative process. This allowed him to “balance my life and myself a little more,” as he shared with FLOOD Magazine, influencing the full song meaning of “I’m Up, I’m Up” by Turnover.
The song’s lyrics encapsulate this transformative spirit, where Getz playfully acknowledges perceived shortcomings while boldly asserting inherent brilliance.
