2019-2020: Emergence and Debut

Vaundy rapidly rose from YouTube uploads to a celebrated debut, marking his arrival in the J-Pop scene.

My identity as a multi-artist is strong enough to say that I want to raise my level in various fields and someday work as a film director or teach other artists.

Vaundy initiated his musical journey in the spring of 2019 by independently sharing his compositions on YouTube. His breakthrough arrived in December of the same year with the digital single “Tokyo Flash,” which quickly garnered attention across social media platforms. This rapid ascent led to his recognition as one of Spotify’s “Early Noise 2020” artists and a “Space Shower Retsuden New Force” artist for 2020.

On May 27, 2020, Vaundy released his debut album, Strobo, which featured 11 tracks and blended pop rock, electronic, and alternative elements. The album reached number five on the Oricon Albums Chart. A track from the album, “Tomoshibi,” was selected as the theme song for the 2020 drama Tokyo Love Story. Another song from the album, “Kaiju no Hanauta,” later achieved over 500 million streams, solidifying its impact.

2021-2022: Breakthrough and Mainstream Recognition

Vaundy cemented his place in mainstream music through viral hits and prominent anime collaborations.

The wonderful piece 'Odoriko' reminds us once again of the unwavering importance of music throughout the ages.

This period marked Vaundy’s increasing visibility and commercial success. In November 2021, he released the single “Odoriko,” which quickly became a viral hit. Further expanding his reach, Vaundy released the EP Hadaka No Yusha on February 23, 2022, with its title track serving as the opening theme for the popular anime Ranking of Kings. He also contributed to the soundtrack of the film One Piece Film: Red by collaborating with singer Ado on the song “Backlight.”

Vaundy’s live performance career also advanced significantly, including two shows at the Nippon Budokan in September 2022. In October 2022, he released “Chainsaw Blood,” which became the ending theme for the anime Chainsaw Man. His year concluded with a performance at the 73rd NHK Kōhaku Uta Gassen, where he performed “Kaijū no Hana Uta” and joined milet, Aimer, and Lilas Ikuta for “Omokage.” These achievements culminated in him receiving the Artist of the Year award at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards Japan.

2023-Present: Artistic Evolution and Global Ambition

Vaundy solidified his artistic vision with a sprawling second album and continued to expand his influence globally.

Vaundy continued to evolve his sound with the release of his second album, Replica, on November 15, 2023. This double-disc album featured new material on Disc 1 and a compilation of 20 previously released digital singles on Disc 2, reflecting his prolific output since his debut. The album’s philosophy, “originals are born from the history of replicas,” underscored his approach to pop music.

His work continued to be featured in major media productions, with “Todome no Ichigeki” (featuring Cory Wong) serving as the ending theme for the second season of the anime Spy × Family, and “Time Paradox” chosen as the theme song for the film Doraemon: Nobita’s Earth Symphony. In 2024, “Homunculus” and “Gift” were selected as theme songs for the film My Hero Academia: You’re Next. Looking ahead, Vaundy has announced a dome tour for 2026 and a Japan domestic arena tour for 2027-2028, signaling his ambition for broader live engagement. His song “Saikai” premiered as the opening theme for the anime The Summer Hikaru Died in July 2025.
