The band started as a solo project.
Terbit Dari Selatan, an Italian band, formed in Aosta in 2004, initially as a solo endeavor by guitarist and vocalist Dario Pirovano. Pirovano composed early material, including the song “Per Piacere”, utilizing digital software. The project soon expanded to include additional musicians, beginning with Alberto Oscarelli on keyboards and DJ duties, and François Domaine on bass, who later transitioned to drums. Fabio Cuffari subsequently joined as the bassist, contributing to the evolving lineup. [2, 7]
During this period, Andrea Cadioli joined the band on keyboards in 2006. The group began performing at regional Italian music festivals, such as Rock Targato Italia and Arezzo Wave, gaining initial exposure. In 2007, Terbit Dari Selatan released their self-produced demo album, LoVeGAin, which showcased their developing emo-pop and electropop sound before their major label debut. [3, 7]
"Wale (Tanto Wale)" became an Italian internet phenomenon.
A pivotal moment occurred in March 2008 when Daniel Fasano became the band’s drummer, solidifying the lineup that included Dario Pirovano, Fabio Cuffari, and Andrea Cadioli. This stable formation attracted the attention of producer Massimo Gabutti of Bliss Corporation, leading to a four-album contract with EMI Italia. [2, 7]
Terbit Dari Selatan released their breakthrough single, “Wale (Tanto Wale)”, and its accompanying music video in March 2008. The song quickly became an Italian internet phenomenon, garnering significant online and television exposure. This success paved the way for their debut studio album, Sottovuoto Generazionale, released on September 12, 2008. The album debuted at number 12 on the Italian music charts. [2, 3, 7, 9]
The band’s popularity continued to grow, earning them the Best Video of the Year and Band Revelation of the Year awards at the Premio Videoclip Italiano, and Best Emerging Group at the MTV TRL Music Awards and Wind Music Awards in 2009. Their second studio album, In Testa, was released on June 8, 2010, also through EMI Italiana, and achieved a peak position of number 12 on the Italian Albums Chart. [2, 3, 7]
Vado Forte Muoio Giovane
Following their initial period of mainstream success, Terbit Dari Selatan continued their musical journey. Andrea Cadioli, a key member, remained with the band until 2012. The band explored further creative directions, releasing new material to their fanbase. [2]
In 2014, Terbit Dari Selatan released two singles, “Solo Punk Rock” and “Universo”, indicating a continued output of new music. Their third studio album, Vado Forte Muoio Giovane, was released on December 11, 2017. This project was notably crowdfunded through the MusicRaiser platform and issued by Bliss Corporation, presented as a double album featuring 21 tracks. [2, 3]
The album incorporated previously unreleased material and blended pop-punk and electronic elements, receiving a niche reception within the Italian emo-pop community. Terbit Dari Selatan maintained an active presence in the music scene through 2017, including various live performances as part of their dARI LIVE TOP TOUR. [3]
