✨ How did Shinedown's journey begin?
Shinedown formed in 2001 after lead singer Brent Smith's previous band, Dreve, was dropped by Atlantic Records. The label, however, saw potential in Smith and kept him under contract, leading him to recruit new musicians to form what would become Shinedown.
✨ What's their impressive chart record?
Shinedown holds the record for the most number one singles on the Mediabase Active Rock chart, with their latest single "Safe And Sound" marking their 25th chart-topper. They were also ranked number one by Billboard on the Greatest of All Time Mainstream Rock Artists chart.
✨ Any surprising covers or connections?
The band released a highly popular acoustic cover of Lynyrd Skynyrd's iconic song "Simple Man," which became a staple in their live shows. Interestingly, Shinedown's original guitarist, Jasin Todd, is married to Melody Van Zant, daughter of Lynyrd Skynyrd's frontman Ronnie Van Zant.
✨ What's unique about their bassist's name?
Shinedown's bassist is appropriately named Eric Bass, though he pronounces it like the fish, not the musical instrument. Beyond music, Eric Bass also enjoys the quiet hobby of building model airplanes.
✨ Which album was a major turning point?
Their third studio album, 'The Sound of Madness' (2008), was a significant breakthrough, solidifying their current lineup and featuring a more expansive sound. Frontman Brent Smith reportedly wrote nearly 60 songs for the album, showcasing a prolific creative period.
