✨ How did Saint Agnes get their start?
Saint Agnes formed in East London as a direct reaction to a music scene they felt lacked true rock 'n' roll spirit, being dominated by shoegaze and retro seventies rock. Co-founders Jon James Tufnell and Kitty A. Austen even admitted to initially telling promoters they were a psychedelic band just to secure gigs.
✨ What's unique about their production approach?
Demonstrating fierce independence, Saint Agnes is known for their strong DIY ethic. They not only self-produce much of their music but also release it on their own 'Death Or Glory Gang' label and create their own music videos, crafting a distinctive dark and macabre world.
✨ How did they record their debut album?
For their debut LP, 'Welcome to Silvertown,' Saint Agnes intentionally recorded the entire album to tape in just 10 days. This unconventional method was chosen to limit options, prevent indecision, and embrace a raw, vibey sound, even if it meant including a few mistakes.
✨ What influences their distinctive sound?
Saint Agnes's sound is often described as dark, blues rock 'n' roll blended with cinematic murder ballads, evoking the high drama of a Quentin Tarantino Western. Their music fuses menacing, frenzied rock with psychedelic blues and elements of industrial and punk.
✨ What are their live shows like?
The band's live performances are renowned for their intensity, wildness, and confrontational energy. They embrace a 'do-or-die' mentality on stage, viewing it as their own created world where they can thrive and push boundaries, even aiming to 'piss the audience off' in their early days.
