PVRIS formed in Lowell, Massachusetts, in 2012, initially under the name Paris, with a lineup featuring Lynn Gunn (vocals, guitar), Alex Babinski (guitar), Brian Macdonald (bass), and Brad Griffin (drums). The band swiftly transitioned from their early post-hardcore leanings, releasing a self-titled EP in March 2013, which showcased their evolving sound. Due to legal considerations, they officially adopted the name PVRIS in July 2013.
Following Griffin’s departure in late 2013, PVRIS continued as a trio, refining their blend of pop rock and electronic elements. This period culminated in their signing with Rise/Velocity Records in June 2014, marking them as the label’s first female-fronted act. Their debut album, White Noise, released in November 2014, garnered critical acclaim and commercial attention, charting on the U.S. Alternative Top Ten and in the U.K.

The success of White Noise propelled PVRIS into extensive touring throughout 2015 and 2016, including supporting prominent acts like Fall Out Boy and Pierce the Veil. In April 2016, a deluxe edition of White Noise was released, featuring new tracks such as the single “You and I”, further expanding their reach.
PVRIS continued their artistic progression with their second studio album, All We Know of Heaven, All We Need of Hell, released in August 2017. This album built upon the electronic-infused alternative rock of their debut, presenting a more mature and atmospheric sound while retaining the band’s characteristic dark undertones. The release was supported by singles like “Heaven” and “What’s Wrong”, solidifying their presence in the alternative music scene.

In 2019, PVRIS released the Hallucinations EP, which offered a preview of their evolving sound. This shift became fully evident with their third studio album, Use Me, released in August 2020. The album embraced a more pronounced electro-pop and synth-driven style, reflecting Lynn Gunn’s increasing role as the primary creative force, handling much of the songwriting, production, and instrumentation.
Just two days before the release of Use Me, Alex Babinski departed from the band following allegations of sexual misconduct. This change officially solidified PVRIS as a duo consisting of Lynn Gunn and Brian Macdonald, with Macdonald later transitioning to a touring member capacity. The band concluded this era with the standalone single “Monster” in July 2021, further exploring their refined sound.

Entering a new phase, Lynn Gunn continued to steer PVRIS as its central artistic vision. The band began teasing new material in October 2022, releasing singles such as “Animal” and “Anywhere but Here”. This period culminated in the release of their fourth studio album, Evergreen, on July 14, 2023, through Hopeless Records. Evergreen continued to showcase PVRIS’s dynamic sound, incorporating alternative rock elements while maintaining their electronic sensibilities.
With Brian Macdonald primarily supporting in a touring capacity, Lynn Gunn’s autonomy in songwriting, production, and performance became more central to the project’s identity. This era further cemented PVRIS as an evolving artistic entity, with subsequent releases like the F.I.L.T.H. EP in October 2024 demonstrating a continuous exploration of their sound and creative vision.
