Papa Roach

Following the success of Infest, Papa Roach continued to evolve their sound with Lovehatetragedy, released on June 18, 2002. This album marked a conscious effort to incorporate less rapping and more singing, showcasing a shift towards alternative rock elements. While it achieved Gold certification, it was their next album, Getting Away with Murder, released on August 31, 2004, that solidified their hard rock identity. This platinum-certified album featured the band’s most successful mainstream hit, “Scars,” which reached No. 15 on the Hot 100 chart, further distancing them from their initial nu-metal sound.

The band continued this trajectory with The Paramour Sessions, released on September 12, 2006. Recorded at the Paramour Mansion, this album further embraced hard rock and alternative rock, yielding singles like “…To Be Loved” and “Forever”. This period also saw the eventual departure of founding drummer David Buckner in 2007.

In 2007, Tony Palermo joined Papa Roach as the permanent drummer, bringing a new dynamic to the band. Their first album with Palermo, Metamorphosis, was released on March 24, 2009. The album’s title reflected the band’s ongoing evolution and marked ten years since their major-label signing. It featured singles like “Lifeline” and “Hollywood Whore”. This was followed by Time for Annihilation…On the Record and On the Road on August 31, 2010, a hybrid live album featuring new studio tracks.

The band further explored electronic influences and a return to some rap-rock elements on The Connection, released on October 2, 2012. Produced by James Michael and John Feldmann, the album included the single “Still Swingin'” and showcased their willingness to experiment while maintaining their hard rock core.

Papa Roach entered a new phase of their career with F.E.A.R. (Face Everything And Rise), released on January 27, 2015. This album, produced by Kevin Churko, demonstrated a blend of hard rock and heavy metal with electronic flourishes, yielding the title track as a successful single. They followed this with Crooked Teeth on May 19, 2017, an album that saw them collaborate with new producers Nicholas “RAS” Furlong and Colin Brittain. The album was praised for revisiting some of Shaddix’s rapping techniques and featuring hits like “Help” and “Born for Greatness”.

The band continued their prolific output with Who Do You Trust?, released on January 18, 2019, further pushing into diverse genres while maintaining their signature sound. Their eleventh studio album, Ego Trip, arrived on April 8, 2022, marking their first independent release on their own New Noize imprint. Ego Trip showcased continued experimentation and a focus on resilience, ensuring Papa Roach’s enduring relevance in the rock music landscape.
