He began to experiment with sound in the mid-1990s, using a rudimentary setup for his early attempts at drum 'n' bass.
Guy Brewer initiated his musical explorations in the mid-1990s, focusing on drum & bass with rudimentary equipment. He quickly gained recognition, touring internationally as a DJ and releasing material on prominent labels within the genre.
During this period, Brewer achieved success as a member of the group Commix, contributing to a body of work that garnered critical acclaim. This foundational era in drum & bass provided him with extensive experience in production and performance, shaping his early artistic identity.
He walked away from drum & bass, embarking on the Shifted project and founding the groundbreaking Avian label in 2011.
Seeking new artistic challenges, Guy Brewer shifted his focus towards techno, launching the Shifted project and establishing the Avian label in 2011. This period saw him delve into various techno sub-genres, utilizing a network of pseudonyms such as Pacific Blue for dubbed-out minimalism, Covered in Sand for rhythmic noise, and Alexander Lewis for drone and feedback works.
The Shifted project and Avian label quickly positioned Brewer at the forefront of the techno movement, earning him recognition for his curatorial skills and production talents. His final Shifted LP was completed in 2020, marking the conclusion of a decade-long exploration within the techno landscape.
Carrier embodies his eclectic journey as an artist, drawing from his experiences in d&b, techno, and beyond.
In 2023, Guy Brewer initiated his latest project under the moniker CARRIER, signifying a departure from previous genre-specific confines and a focus on unifying his diverse musical influences. This new phase represented a fresh start, personally and creatively, allowing him to explore an unbounded style.
Early releases under CARRIER included the tape Lazy Mechanics on The Trilogy Tapes in 2023, and the FATHOM EP for FELT. This was followed by a series of self-released EPs and singles, including “In Spectra” in 2024, and “The Fan Dance” and “Tender Spirits” in 2025. The debut album as CARRIER, Rhythm Immortal, was released on October 24, 2025, via Modern Love, featuring collaborations with Voice Actor and Memotone. The project continues to evolve, with an EP titled Choke released in February 2026.
