The band took its name from a song by American punk band, Broadway Calls.
Call It Off formed in Eindhoven, Netherlands, in 2013, with a lineup comprising Maurice Bolier on guitar and vocals, Adrian DeLange on guitar and vocals, Lesley Klaverdijk on bass, and Sergei Christian on drums. The band’s inception was a result of a friendship forged between Bolier and DeLange during a tour, later joined by tour manager Klaverdijk and Bolier’s schoolmate Christian.
Their initial releases, the EPs Lovers (2013) and Liars (2014), were issued through White Russian Records. These EPs were subsequently combined and expanded with two new tracks to form their debut full-length album, Lovers & Liars, released in 2015. This period concluded with the single “Anesthesia” in late 2015, marking their final release under White Russian Records for this initial phase of their career.
Their Sony Music debut Abandoned spawned a Top 40 hit and led to international touring.
In April 2016, Call It Off signed with Sony Music, a move that preceded the release of their single “Abandoned” in August of the same year. The band’s second album, also titled Abandoned, followed in January 2017. This release included additional singles such as “Death or Glory” and “Scream Your Heart Out.”
Following the album’s release, Call It Off embarked on a tour from November to December 2017. During this era, the band gained recognition within the Dutch pop-punk scene, performing at festivals and securing support slots for acts like Panic! At The Disco. They continued to release singles, including “Young” (2018), “Maybe I Don’t Wanna Know” (2019), and “Every Little Thing” (2019), before an announced hiatus.
During those recordings, the guys and I, we all realized we had a break for two years, and this [making music together] really is a lot of fun.
In early 2020, Call It Off announced their decision to disband, with a farewell show initially scheduled for May 2020. This decision stemmed from Maurice Bolier’s desire to explore other pursuits in 2019. However, the COVID-19 pandemic led to the postponement of their farewell performance multiple times.
During this extended period, the band reconnected to record a ‘farewell’ EP, aptly titled “Fare Well,” with their original label, White Russian Records. This recording process rekindled the members’ enthusiasm for creating music. Adrian DeLange and Lesley Klaverdijk ultimately departed due to evolving personal commitments and a diminished passion for the band’s demanding schedule. Despite these lineup changes, Bolier and Christian decided to continue Call It Off.

Call It Off officially reformed in February 2023, retaining founding members Maurice Bolier and Sergei Christian. They were joined by new additions Gio Sliwa on guitar and backing vocals, and Timmy Steenstra Toussaint on bass and backing vocals. This revitalized lineup released the album Not Another Sad Album in 2025.
A notable development in this era was the release of Thirteen (Call It Off’s Version) in 2025, an album consisting entirely of Taylor Swift cover songs reimagined in their pop-punk style. Their cover of “Fortnight” gained significant traction on TikTok, contributing to an expanding fanbase. The band subsequently undertook extensive touring, including a European tour, and observed a growing following in the United States, demonstrating a new chapter in their career.
