About Whisp.fm
We believe good music deserves to be known.
From Backstage Whisp
It started in July 2014, when a small group of music fans built something called Backstage Whisp. The idea was straightforward: share what we loved, alternative and sidestream artists from around the world that rarely made it into the mainstream conversation. If we found something worth hearing, we wanted to pass it on.
Along the way, we started writing album reviews. Not just to critique, but to guide. To give anyone curious about a new band a real reason to dig deeper. Because we’ve always believed that understanding music makes the experience richer.
We also couldn’t ignore what was happening closer to home. Even as our focus stayed international, Backstage Whisp began covering Indonesian sidestream music, because there was too much going on in the local scene to look the other way.
After a period of quiet while the team navigated life outside the internet, Backstage Whisp came back in April 2016 with renewed purpose.
Whisp.fm Today
That journey has since grown into Whisp.fm. More than a music blog, we’re building a platform for discovery and depth: a weekly chart, album reviews, editorial features, and thousands of song pages that explore the meaning and context behind the music.
The name “whisp” captures something we still believe in: the way music worth knowing spreads quietly, passed between people who genuinely care about it.
We’re here for anyone who wants more than just a listen.
