Green Day, the iconic punk rock band from the East Bay, is set to make their mark on the film industry with an upcoming comedy titled New Year’s Rev. Produced in collaboration with Live Nation Productions, the film draws inspiration from the band’s early touring experiences, offering a nostalgic yet humorous look at the challenges and adventures of life on the road.

New Year’s Rev follows the story of three friends—portrayed by Mason Thames, Kylr Coffman, and Ryan Foust—who embark on a cross-country journey to Los Angeles under the mistaken belief that their band will open for Green Day on New Year’s Eve. Their road trip evolves into a series of rowdy and mischievous escapades, reflecting the real-life exploits of Green Day during their formative years.

The film boasts a talented ensemble cast, including Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey, both renowned for their roles in The Office, as well as Ignacio Diaz-Silverio and Keen Ruffalo. Lee Kirk serves as both writer and director for the project. Notably, Kirk previously directed Ordinary World, a 2016 comedy-drama featuring Green Day’s frontman, Billie Joe Armstrong.

Reflecting on the band’s early days, Armstrong shared, “Van days rule. You will drive all night on no sleep then play a show for 10 kids in a basement of a friend of a friend’s house 50 miles east of … . But you’ll do it again the next … .”

Currently in production in Oklahoma, New Year’s Rev is co-produced by Green Day members Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tré Cool. While a specific release date has yet to be announced, anticipation is building among fans eager to see this cinematic homage to the band’s early adventures.

Live Nation Productions, the film … television division of Live Nation Entertainment, … A Star Is Born, Moonage Daydream, and Love, Lizzo. Ryan Kroft, head of film and TV at Live Nation Productions, commented, “With incredible guidance from Green Day … New Year’s Rev tells the story of young artists … —long nights, endless miles, and … . Brought to life by an incredible … .”

As fans await further details, New Year’s Rev promises to deliver a blend of music, mischief, and heartfelt moments, capturing the essence of Green Day’s journey from humble beginnings to punk rock stardom.
