The new song pick this time falls on a hardcore band called CARRIER, who has just released their debut song titled “Grieve.” This debut is taken from their first EP, which is planned to be released on February 23, 2018, titled Wither. Speaking a little about CARRIER, this band hails from the South West region of England. Since they first appeared in the UK local music scene, particularly among hardcore music lovers, in March 2017, CARRIER has sparked notable comparisons, often being seen as a band with the potential to be a spiritual successor to Counterparts and August Burns Red. At first glance, the music they offer is an impressive blend of hardcore and metal, both overt and honest.
Regarding their debut song and introduction, “Grieve,” CARRIER explains that this song is centered around death. This expression of death represents their way of coping with one of the saddest events they’ve experienced together when they lost a close friend. The free and unrestricted expression of death makes them sound ‘angry’ in this song titled “Grieve.” This anger is a manifestation of their self-reflection directed at the concept of death itself, about how they feel robbed by the world due to the loss of a friend.
In a press release, CARRIER mentioned that their upcoming debut mini-album will sound very visual, reflecting the emotions they experienced while working on it. “Everything about this recording is very open and clear in the sense that we’re telling what it really is. Anger, sadness, and everything in between will be openly and honestly told in this record. We’ve named the album Wither, which should explain (what we mean),” said CARRIER about their debut mini-album Wither.
Finally, “Grieve” is a song directly written to tell the story of death, a reflection of their feelings when they had to lose someone very close, making everything in life seem meaningless. A song with heavy themes and aggressive in terms of technicality. Listen to the new song “Grieve” for free below and look forward to their debut mini-album Wither, which will be released on February 23, 2018.
